Subject Line Showdown

=====================================================

Update: The Results Are In!

Here are the official results (open-rate on the right):

1.) “The Fastest Way to Build a List”   (48.1%)
2.) “So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?” (39.4%)
3.) “This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”     (35.5%)

“The Fastest Way to Build a List” received the highest open rate. However, 80% of the votes we’re for #3, which had the lowest open-rate.

When I ran this test, even I was surprised by the results. This is why it’s sooooo important to test. Often times our assumptions prove false. Testing is the only true way to see what works best.

In this case, we’ve increased the open rate by over 10% from the #3 subject line to the #1 subject line. And the more people you get to open your email the more money you make. This is like giving yourself an instant pay raise.

Quite Note: The test above was done with a very fresh list and that’s why the number’s are quite high overall. (48% open rate is unheard of unless it’s a fairly fresh, new list of subscribers.) Each email was sent out to 500 subscribers.

These simple split-tests are a goldmine. Simple little tweaks like this can make a HUGE difference on your bottom line.

I’ll be sending a prize to all the winners. So be sure to look for that in your inbox soon! If you don’t receive it within 24 hours, then shoot me an email at kim@buzzblogger.com

=====================================================

Hope you’re ready for a bit of friendly competition!

We’ve got prizes and everything :)

Today’s contest is called the “Subject Line Showdown”.

As you probably already know, Aweber has this really cool feature that allows you to test multiple subject lines. It then sends each of your emails to a subset of your list, allowing you to see exactly which subject line has the highest open rate.

A couple weeks ago I set up a test for 3 different subject lines.
I wanted to test these 3 subject lines to see exactly which one had the highest open rate.

So here are the choices:

“So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?”
“The Fastest Way to Build a List”
“This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”

So, which one do you think won?

Leave a comment below on which one you think won along with why you think that one was the winner.

All of the winner’s will receive a special prize so go ahead and get your comments in.

I can’t wait to see the results!

I will post the official results tomorrow at 9am EST.

Good Luck!

- Kim

  • Joe
    Hi Kim,

Thanks for the prize. Pretty good information here.
  • “So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?” is the one I'd vote for
  • KP
    Hey Kim,
Thank You so much for prize. Just read it, there was some technique that was pretty new to me. I loved the resources too. Keep up the good work and Thanks again.
  • jumpinjak
The fastest way to build a list! Winner, Winner, Winner
    chicken dinner!
  • Woohoo! I'm one of the winners! ;)

I guess the winning headline works best because it GUARANTEES a positive result - that is you WILL build a list and build it FAST. Also, it's very straight to the point. No second guess what message it's trying to convey.

'List Building Ninja' doesn't really tell me anything. Some people might take a while to figure out what that means, and it's not good if the reader needs to think to figure out what your headline is trying to say.

'Easy Tip' only tells me the list building strategy or methodology is easy, but it doesn't say it's EFFECTIVE. I want something that WORKS, not easy. Period.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Cheers~

    Mark
  • kenfournier
Hi Kim: I think the second one (the fastest way to build a list) is the winner! It gets right to the point for the person whom reads it. Makes more sence too and also is very impressive to alot of people. At least I think so!
  • goldmultiplier
I guess "This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy". It is a "curiousity" headline - they probably all get good responses though - simply because they are coming from you. I flag anything you send me to open and read later. I read the headlines of many but few do I open :-)
  • “So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?”
  • So this would indicate that people want something quick, fast, no fooling around. IN this day and age I am not surprized.
    Great test Kim.
    Keep up the great work.
  • Bruce Ruby
wow! unexpected results! the actual increase was 35% going from 35.5 to 48 - very impressive.
  • BS
“This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”

because it recieved the most action!!!!
  • Hi Kim,

You are right, we always need to test instead of keep listening to other people
  • ricardomedina
Hi Kim, this is my choice:
“The Fastest Way to Build a List”

    Thank you

  • edward111
“So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?” should be the one!
  • William
People are naturally lazy so I think choice 3 would be the answer.
  • What if we did a totally new combination? Fast, Easy And Ninja?

"The Fastest Listbuilding Ninja Reveals His #1 Tip"
  • Really interesting - thanks for sharing that Kim! It was also good to see the response you got in terms of comments, a great lesson in ideas for driving traffic to your blog too.

I think that the results here would have to take into account a large proportion of folks going with what was the most popular answer - logic would suggest that the most popular here would also be the most popular on a mailing list, however it turns out that by doing that people ended up making the wrong one rise to the top. On a mailing list, each subscriber wouldn't see what the other has opened and would therefore have to make that decision based on their own judgement!

So lots to think about from this one simple example! :))
  • marysu
Fast or Easy? Most people want both, so I find it difficult to choose which a reader might be ready to accept at any time of day! But if it's fast, then it can't be too difficult, or if it is, the difficulty won't last long -- so now that I've over analyzed...

My vote goes for the more direct "The Fastest Way to Build a List".

(and the winner is probably something about a self-empowered ninja)
  • I would go for No 3 because it implies that List Building Is Not Difficult at all..
  • amrizalbakar
I think it`s the second one: ”The Fastest Way to Build a List”
Simple and direct to the point.
  • This one.
”So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?”
You have to have different headlines anyway for all us crazies
    in the online world.
  • I assume it's the second title: we all lack time , but we also want results in the shortest possible time
  • I think the winner is
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”

Thsnk you for your education and empathy to newbies and others alike. God Bless.
    Shakuntala
  • ”The Fastest Way to Build a List”

Gives the impression that the answer will not be long winded or drawn out. It sounds snappy and to the point
  • Amitola
I vote for #3 “This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
  • nicossty
I will vote for the choice nr 1 "So you want to become a List Building Ninja?". Personally, I find this title intriguing and makes me curious to read more. The other two, they sound too conventional and overused.
  • Mayank
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” should be the best performing one IMHO, for two reasons:

    1) The other two sound a bit hypey and are over used in the IM world
    2) The third one sounds something specific, easy to implement and one which shouldn't take much time or knowledge to do. The other two seem to be something vast which someone may not have the time/knowledge/resources to implement.

Keep up the good work Kim, we really appreciate it!
  • Joe
"The Fastest Way to Build a List" gets my vote also.
  • ”The Fastest Way to Build a List”

    People associate fast, with easy.
  • Arthur Earle
The fastest wayto build a list...
Straight forward and to the point.
  • Daniel
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”

This one actually pulls a person into the conversation because
of the phrase "almost too easy" which generated curiousity. I
would want to check it out and make the judement call about
how easy the list building tip is...!!
  • gleg
Number 3... "easy" is the secret money word!
  • Renee
#3 Appeals to curiosity and ego.
  • Brian
I'm going to pick #3 .. "This list building Tip is almost too Easy"

Keeps you curious to want to know more. Plus everyone wants to discover easy tips.
  • Bev
No 3 would get my vote - Tip means short and easy means simple. Would suit busy and lazy people. Most would open out of the curiosity factor ++ too.
  • ”The Fastest Way to Build a List”

People are so busy these days they would dream to be able to do everything faster in half the time. So I think most of us would like to know the best option (fastest).

Furthermore, whatever most people think would be the most boring (which it is) usually turn out to be a winner.

After all, it's the readers' perceptions that matter, not ours (I think most people here who take the time to comment are quite into the online marketing, so we might be thinking differently from most people out there, or we just want the special prizes!).
  • Pamela
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” Essentially 99% of people don't take action, so the easiest way out is generally the choice so I think this particular subject line would have been chosen.
We see the other headlines a lot but this was fresh and new and maybe something we had not seen before so out of curiosity open it to have a look.

    Pamela
  • jerryhaug
I vote for number three. "Easy" would, of course, get my attention. I mean, I'm a single father with a very full time JOB and anything that helps and is easy would at least get me to read the email (although I would be skeptical! Ha!).
  • Chuck
#3 would do it for me. Offers quickness and simplicity, which is what we all are looking for!!!!
  • johndtaylor
    Hi Kim,
I would say the subject line that won is ”The Fastest Way to Build a List” because it is straight to the point, it's believable, and to me, gets you to look. When I see the three, I may look at all three, but the one without the fluff is the winner for me.
    John
  • Brandon
"This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy" gets my vote. It makes the reader curious and intrigues people to open the email. Plus..people like 'easy' tips as well :)
  • wenyi
I also choose "This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy", and the reason is curiosity, the first is too professional, and the second is not as attractive as the third one. Easier is better than faster for most people.
  • Think I'd go for the third one, "too easy," 'cause people are looking for easy over fast.
  • I would say that ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” has the highest open rate. Everyone loves to receive tips especially if its easy to implement.

The other 2 subject lines are pretty common and will probably end up in my trash.
  • michael Nash
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
Mystery of an easy way always appealing
  • PeterTrapanese
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”

I think people respond to something free, or easy... I don't really understand why but that is the way it seems... #2, ”The Fastest Way to Build a List” might be something very clickable as well... Can't wait to see results
  • Daaiyah
So, You Want to Become a List Building Ninja. It feels powerful
  • Carolese
I vote for ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”.

While I'm sure the other two are very popular, this one really speaks to something I think a lot of people online are looking for...ease and simplicity. Fear stand in the way for a lot of us and when something is presented as "too easy" then it becomes a relief and we are attracted to click and find out all about it.
  • terrance
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
  • yoder59
MY vote is: ”So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?”
It asks a question and related to something [ Ninja] people already have an emotion too.
  • Chuck
"This list building tip is almost too easy" gets my vote. I believe most people like easy because this internet marketing thing can be overwhelming.
  • Mythos
I think the most common was the winner, which is:
"The fastest way to build a list"

I think people are used to this, and also when they have subscribed to someones newsletter they expect this one to send them clear emails with tips. It's the clearest and straight subject line, and when it made it to s.o's inbox, and not the spam folder, that means he/she will read it.
  • "This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy" I believe this to be the winner, because i personally would click it open to learn the tip inside, the other too seem as if i am going to have to click a link, read a sales page, and then decide on weather or not i wish to purchase another list building product
  • Renee
I would open "The Fastest Way to Build a List". I like it's directness. Would expect it to be an informational, rather than a sales, email.
  • Red
I'll go with ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”.
  • My first reaction was to go with the second one, "The Fastest Way to Build a List". But seeing what all of this actually is about, I decided to go with my own personal research. From everyone who commented here, like 80% went with the third one "This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy". Which would suggest that probably 80% of the people actually selected that one as well.

So my final answer would be #3, "This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy." Apart from that...people want easy stuff :).
  • Max Armstrong
    Hey Kim,

My winning subject line choice is; ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” because it contains the word “Easy”, evokes curiosity and is like something your best friend would tell you in a secret conversation. A quick and easy tip I can use today….OK tell me quick so I can use it right now.

Your “List Building Ninja” subject line says; ”So, You Want to become…”. To me it says you’re not there yet and sounds like too much “WORK” is involved to get there. Everyone wants free, easy and no one wants WORK. Yikes!!!

If... your “Fastest Way” subject line said; ”The Fastest Way to Build a List That Buys Your Stuff Everytime!”
(Ohh that's a great subject line if I do say so myself...As a matter of fact I am claiming that subject line as my own... LOL)

Now…that one would be my choice! But it doesn’t say all that so….

…My final answer is…”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”

P.S. Loved your other case study about article marketing.

    Max =;->~
  • Number 3!
    Sandra
  • mike35
Kim, my personal choice would be ”The Fastest Way to Build a List” because it gets straight to the point FAST!!
  • Hey there Kim... Nice lot of comments building up here :)

I would have to go for the 3rd one, “This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy.”

Guessing is no substitute for testing, of course, so will be keen to learn the results of your test!
  • "The fastest way to build a list" because people want to know how to do something in the most painless and quick way.
  • Kim, I go with "This list building tip is almost too easy". Reason? Ninja has been over-used. And Fastest seems to be very common. However number 3 should get opened more and by more people? Just a newbie opinion with too many years at this? Thanks for all you do Kim, Bob O
  • Hmm, number 3 seems right to me, but I have a feeling you have a trick up your sleeve and the answer is not as obvious as it seems.
  • 'List building ninja' sounds too hypey.

'The fastest way to build a list' is worn out and sounds a bit spammy.

'This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy' is great. It's simple. It offers a free tip. The word easy makes the tip sound even better, and when you add the 'almost too' before it - it makes it believable. Great subject line and I bet it won by far.
  • diana135
My vote would be for "So you want to become a list-building Ninja?". Something about the word "Ninja" implies expertise, strength, and seriousness...but serious fun as well.
  • Divena
I wote for ”So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?”

    Rebecca
  • KP
The middle one! Simply because it sound like you were almost going to show me what the fastest way to build a list is. It's doesn't have to be all played out, if it works, it works...
  • Ros
I think, ”The Fastest Way to Build a List” will win because it is short and to the point.
  • jerryfrederick
Fastest Way to Build a List

Although trite and over used, it quickly gets to the point and says exactly what the viewer is probably looking for. The other two are a little gimmicky.
  • Mike
The fastest way to build a list gets my vote.
  • rani
I would say, "The Fastest Way to Build a List."
  • visma
#3 is still obvious but new. I still like #1... like the ninja idea.

    I am curious.
  • visma
This list building tip is almost too easy followed by

So you want to become a List Building Ninja is still catchy.

I am interested to see what the winner subject line is.

    Visma
  • copycash
This List building Tip is Almost Too Easy is my choice. Why because everyone wants things to be easy. Fast is used too much and ninja is nunja...
  • lizcan
#2 The fastest way to build a list. Because people want fast results.
  • wayne
If I were 12 again I might pick #1 and I see #3 as something the gurus are always saying so I don't believe it either. Now #2 gets right to the point without the hype so my vote is for #2.
  • I think the winner was

”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
as it has "list building" as key term showcased
    first.
  • Cathi
My first thought was the third one - This List Building Tip is Almost Too Easy because it peaks ones curiosity. The others are good too, but I will go with the last choice.
  • Number three would be my vote. It plays on two natural human trates, curiosity and lazyness. Tell me the secret and tell me the easy way to do it. Very nicely implied in a very simple subject line.
  • Terry
I think it is #2 because people want an easy way to accomplish any task. it also makes one curious as to whether they already know and use this method. It's short, punchy and to the point, plus it catches the eye. The shortness also implies the email may not be to long as people don't want to spend a long time reading. WE HAVE A WINNER!

    Terry
  • Terry, therefore you mean answer or not ?
  • Sorry I wanted to say answer 3
  • Darva
    Hi Kim..
I believe #2 was the winner. Keywords being fast and list building...who doesn't want that? Simple and to the point.
  • KeithB
When I first read these, both #2 and #3 jumped out as subject lines I would click on to learn more and I'm thinking the results will be close between these two.

If I had to pick the one the masses would click on, I would go with #2 ”The Fastest Way to Build a List” because it is short, the easiest to read and promises a huge benefit (Fastest Way) anyone would be curious to learn.
  • David
I think "The fastest way to build a list" is the winner. It is straight forward and to the point.
  • marketingMike
I would go with the third one. Saying it's almost too easy will grab the interest of all the lazy people. And there are a lot of lazy people.
  • Diane
Got to be "This list building tip is almost too easy"
because everyone wants to have it EASY!
I am not saying we are lazy or anything ~ just easy is good!
  • deborahbeecham
The fastest way to build a list, not what everyone else thinks I know, but I thought that it was to the point and wasn't hyped up with the usual b/s.
  • I vote for option 2: ”The Fastest Way to Build a List”.
  • Don
It must be number 2... because most people think it's either 1 or 3.
  • susanvadino
It has to be the title that says ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” Of the three titles that is the one that would prompt me to open an email. People do not like things that seem complicated. BTW it is a great headline.
  • IanG1
The others where ok - but for me this has the greatest call to action.
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
Now watch me be wrong LOL
  • lydiagrove
    No 3 for me.
  • Well..I am sorta stuck between 1 and 3, but tend to lean towards 3, because the word "easy" is what most folks want, right?
  • Marusja
    Hi Kim,

I would say that it is 'The fastest Way to build a list' because not everyone would relate to the first one (Ninja), and although the last one includes the word 'easy', it is just a tip as opposed to a whole list building strategy. So my vote is the second one.

  • IanG1
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
  • jimeastman
Number 3 - "This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy" - -people want everything to be "Easy" !
  • Cliff Dean
I'd say number 2 because its that that I want "The Fastest Way to Build a List". I'm not looking for gimmiicks "Ninja" that makes me think of turtle soup,or a "Tip" which makes me think its just another idea added toa bigger programme.
  • uthrive
I think the answer Is without a doubt Is ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
  • I'm going to go with ”The Fastest Way to Build a List”. That would entice me to open the email.

    Cheers~

    Mark
  • Mrs. Dorothy Barron
The second subject title gets to the point! I do not have to try and guess what information you will be imparting with that title.
  • I agree that ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” most certainly has to be the winner. JohnT said it perfectly below. :)
  • redrobyn
I like no 1 as it talks to me - so gets my interest, you is talking only to me and ninja's are super fast action.
  • jaylynne
    2) ”The Fastest Way to Build a List” Short, sweet and to the point.

    Jay
  • The Fastest Way To Build a List is my selection.

Everyone wants something that works quick and gets results
    in a hurry.
  • robwake
I recon its “This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
  • Brian
The fastest way to build a list

This basic but to the point.I think people are getting a little fed up with hype.So basic and honest
  • bizaddy
Kim, I vote for number 1.
  • Ermm.. I think I'd have to go with "This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy" because I have just tested this out on my list :D lol
  • Hello, Kim and the internet marketing world
I think the answer is #2 [The Fastest Way To Build a List]
This why I say it is #2
    1. It gets right to the point
    2. It grabs your attention
    3. and the last thing is it say's the fastest way to something
    thanks
  • leonmoniot
3 ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
Luc (and many others) have nailed it. It's #3 because of the curiosity that's been stirred up. EXACTLY. But #2 also has that element... however one comment pointed out that its overused.

The one certain element is that #3 not only has the right elements, it is actually the way that Kim speaks... it's her voice. 'yall are dealing with a real pro here. Good job.
  • I must agree with the first one. My vote is on ”So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?”.
  • "So You Want to become a List Building Ninja?"
    That's the one.
  • hackia
I immediately disregarded the 2nd one and the third would probably be in 2nd place. I would defiantly say Mr ninja won.
    I would open it :)

    Go ninja go ninja go.
  • Mood
The fastest way to build a list.
Seems like I am the only one who liked that one:-)
  • JohnT
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” is definitely the winning headline.

First of all, the other 2 headlines have been used so much by others that they're "played out."

Also, my selection gives the impression that you're sharing a brand new inside tip that can make my job of building a list much easier. And you know, everyone wants what is simple & easy with the least amount of work.

    That's my choice.
  • christiekho
I think its going to be ”So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?”

It has a unique title and using the word "NINJA" is different and clever.
  • dave009
Hi Kim, My vote goes to ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” it seems to draw the reader into the email for more info. Fast is good but easy is better.. and ninja, I don't know to me it reflects working undercover... it sounds fun but might seem like too much work compared to "easy"
  • Pete
I would side with the last option. Tips are always useful and there is also the curiosity factor.
Depends a lot on who the sender is!
  • tweetinit
I would guess, so many people already get so many emails similar to 1 & 2, they are almost a waste of time, I probably would not click them anyway, 3 would be a more unique subject line, I say 3!
  • The "Fastest Way" line will probably be ignored by all those who have seen it so many times before, and think they know the fastest way already.
And the Ninja reference is not only hackneyed and somewhat puerile, but also offputtingly challenging in its tone.
The third one, ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” is the most likely to get the highest open rate. The reference to a single, and easy, tip implies that the reader will not have to invest much time, either in reading the email or in implementing the tip. It also invites a quick look just out of curiosity.
  • callseller
It would depend on the group (list) you are targeting but in general it would be ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” since it appeals to the "I want it now but I don't want to work for it" part of all of us.
  • terez
    Hi Kim,

I think it was ”The Fastest Way to Build a List”, I think it speaks the most to the end goal. People want a list not a collection of tips. And I think fast will win over easy.
  • In my opinion it's the last, "This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy" because we (the consumer) are always lazy. To read a tip you don't need much time, the tip is easy (thank god not much work) and curiosity killed the cat, is it possible that I don't know it ? Let me check.
Just my opinion, could be wrong, nobody is perfect ;-)
  • BS
The 3rd one, “This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy. Because people like the easy way better
  • Michael
I'm going for "The fastest way to build a list" because it's direct and straight to the point/objective!!!
  • chris
”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” curiosity seems to be the consensus
  • Eric
”So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?”

It's a question that the receiver will ask himself/herself whether he/she want to be a list building ninja. If he/she wants, he will answer this question by opening the email. :)

Question subject will mostly pull the receiver to open email.
  • docmercer
Tough call between two and three for me so I'll go with number two because it suggests total method and fast.

    DocM
  • I think it was:
“This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
The reason I thought this was the one was the word "Easy" - it caught my eye right away.
  • Hi Kim,

I feel the 3rd one is best - ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” because it doesn't sound hyped.

I get a lot of emails and I tend to open most to see how they've phrased their mailshot in general so I can emulate the same, I observe their subject lines too but most these days seem to follow some kind of fad. i.e. all "gurus" start sending their offers with the very same subject line which doesn't make the mail seem sincere at all.

In general, I delete all over hyped mailshots without even navigating to the offer page unless its my browsing day and I am just looking to see what's going on out there.

Keep up the good work :)

    William
  • Kim,

I vote for ”The Fastest Way to Build a List”.

Basically because everyone wants the Fastest, Easiest, Laziest, method to money.

And it was the one I would have opened!

    Later,

I think ”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” won
  • My choice ist no 3. Look at what others have said: it's just too tempting and will be opened. And it seems that you will not have to invest a lot of time (yet) as it is a SINGLE tip. And the almost is intriguing too. It instills curiosity.
@1: Not everybody wants to be a Ninja (and it lets me think of a continuity program)
@2: It is a value to know how to build a list fast. However this has often been said, and it insinuates work involved (fast, not easy)

Number 1 has to be "This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy"
Reason being that everyone is always looking for an 'easy' option.
  • derrick
Without a doubt "”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”" - that seriously appeals, it hits the "Easy" button!

”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” is the winner - or maybe the question was 'almost' too easy, but not quite :-)
  • I'm going to go with ”So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?”
  • Thoko
”The Fastest Way to Build a List” I'm on a fast track to build one therefore I would have opened this one!
  • Luc
I would say #3 because it plays on curiosity
  • I'm going for:

”The Fastest Way to Build a List” - but having said that I really have NO idea - will be interested to know the real result :) hope you email us the answer Kim
  • Chris
    I say No.1.

    It provokes emotional stimulation.

You can add subscribers passively after time, but you have to be rather aggressive about it in the beginning.
  • walkel
The third one Kim. Its kind of mysterious and makes you want to find out HOW easy thie tip is.
  • Hugh
This one does it for me, ”So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?”

Asks a question to stimulate curiosity, infers something secret and very powerful. The "AIDA" Formula.

    All the best Kim.
  • Jo
”The Fastest Way to Build a List” gets my vote. It's short, direct, says it's fastest and it tells me it's a way to build my list. Concise wins.
  • lonnyn
Can I vote three times? No! OK.

  • ”So, You Want to become a List Building Ninja?” is my choice.
  • It has GOT to be:

”This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”
  • ”The Fastest Way to Build a List” as it is straight to the point, but if I can add my own version, I would use "The fastest and easiest way to build YOUR list!", just my two cents, SY
  • itsMurphy
I think the third option is best... “This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy”. It implies that I have missed out on something that is easy.
  • Mark
#2 “The Fastest Way to Build a List” is really the winner in my opinion and I"m sure about it. Especially if your prospects are interested in building a list.
  • frankwb1
Hmmm....I guess I must be wired differently than everyone else-I think the one that would work best would be “The Fastest Way to Build a List”
People don't want to spend a lot of time learning how to do it-they want to hurry up and get it done. Of course-as good marketers like Kim know that's why you test-to find out the truth about what works best.
  • Obviously the answer is “This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” Why? two words " Almost and Easy"
  • The fastest Way To Build a List has more searches on Google than any of the others- So I vote for that one.

On a personal note I liked the 'so, you want to become a list building ninja?' because it had a question mark and left a great deal open - waiting to find out more

    Tony
  • I reckon its the List Building is Almost too Easy. It's as said below - easy and tips are the ones and being a Ninja, people may just think they could not do that?
We will see soon I guess!!
    Thanks Kim
  • Joe
I would say number 2 “The Fastest Way to Build a List” It is simple and direct to the point and offers the fastest way to do what the recipient wants.
  • PaulaSmiles
I'm going to go against the grain and guess "The Fastest Way to Build a List".

    Why?

It's the one I would open if I saw all three.

The first one makes me think it's a link to buy something.

The third one is tempting because I want to know the tip.

However, in my mind the second one is going to teach me the most about building a list.
  • Hi Kim,

This is interesting - and quite hard!! I'm going to say "The Fastest Way to Build a List" as sometimes I think that just getting to the point helps. But I think you'd have to take into consideration who's sending it.

If you wrote that then I know that's what you're sending - someone else and I'd assume it's just another affiliate link to something rubbish - so I'd prob ignore it.

Frankly - you could have sent any one of the 3 and I'd have opened it cos you always have something to make it worth opening for!

Other marketers may have to try a bit harder to get me to open their mail these days!

It's got to be “This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” it is the most specific of the three and gives the impression it is not just another load of waffle.
  • I think it's the third one: “This List Building Tip Is Almost Too Easy” because everyone would want to click just to check if they new the easy tip already.
